The formation of the Sussex Inlet Surf Life Saving Club was in 1981.
We started with a caravan that was towed to and from the beach for patrols, our
gear consisted of a belt and reel, a couple of pairs of flippers and a
rescue board that was donated by another club.
By 1984 we had our second club house a Shipping Container and through
vigourous fund raising and the generosity of the community our Surf Life
Saving Equipment was beginning to grow.
The next stage was our 3rd Clubhouse not quite as we know it now but
over the years is slowly transforming into a pleasant area for visitors
and locals with gardens, lawns Barbecue area, paved walkways and two public
viewing platforms.
Our essential Life Saving Equipment has grown including two Inflatable
Rescue Boats with the hope of meeting the demands of a growing population
and a very high influx of tourists during holiday periods.
Along with this rapid growth our expenses and manpower requirements
have increased dramatically. However still with a tremendous level of local
support, some very hard working members and highly motivated committee
we are holding our own.
